Chief Executive Officer

₿trust is looking to hire a full-time Chief Executive Officer. The successful applicant will be responsible for delivering on the organisation’s mission, working closely with the board to ensure that the organisation remains aligned with its Genesis Principles and Operational Guidelines.


What You'll Do:


  • Collaboration with the board on long-term strategic and shorter-term operational planning to deliver on ₿trust’s objectives.
  • Developing and leading day-to-day delivery of periodic (e.g., annual) operational plans and models, including for human and financial resourcing in alignment with Genesis Principles.
  • Oversight of ₿trust’s finances and budgeting, including periodic (annual, quarterly, monthly, and ongoing) financial plans and forecasts.
  • Quarterly Reporting to the board against operational plans showing operational and financial trends and results.
  • Providing team leadership to ensure organisational policies and culture align with Genesis Principles and Good Practice, including regarding Duty of Care.
  • In the longer term, working to secure additional not-for-profit funding sources to support the ongoing mission.


What You'll Need:


  • Independent Work Ethic: Demonstrates the ability to work autonomously, managing tasks and responsibilities without constant supervision.
  • Creative Problem-Solving: Possesses strong capabilities in innovative thinking and creative solutions, particularly in challenging or unfamiliar situations.
  • Understanding of Developer Education: Has familiarity with educational programs in software development, such as coding camps or upskilling initiatives, especially in underrepresented regions. An understanding of open-source engineering environments will be advantageous.
  • Insight into the Global South Developer Landscape: Knowledgeable about the unique aspects and needs of the developer community in the Global South, with a focus on African regions.
  • Bitcoin Ecosystem Awareness: While not initially essential, a firm grasp or willingness to learn about the Bitcoin ecosystem, including its challenges, opportunities, and comparative strengths against other cryptocurrencies, is highly desirable.
  • Leadership in Not-for-Profit or Commercial International Organisations: At least four years (preferred) of experience in leading not-for-profit or commercial organisations with a significant presence in Africa and/or the Global South. Candidates with slightly less experience will also be considered.
  • Management of Dispersed Teams: Proven experience managing a geographically dispersed team comprising at least three members, including those in the Global South, preferably in an African region.
